I’m just going to copy paste the video description I posted on YouTube for this. I was excited about this though :)
There were mechanical problems earlier this week on the Waterbury branch, so I’m sure this is due to some sort of equipment shortage or something. Even when they run the SLE consists midday, there’s usually a crappy P40DC, not a GP40.
I know that usually a SLE consist runs the midday trains on the Waterbury branch. Normally when I catch those trains, there’s an ex-Amtrak P40DC on it. I’ve never actually seen an unusual consist on the evening train, and #1981 is my train of choice to video. Earlier this week there was busing due to mechanical issues, so I’m sure there’s some sort of equipment shortage. Cue me driving home from work. I have a habit of looking off towards Waterbury station when I get on the mixmaster. Today, I see a friggin GP-40. Cue me freaking out. I immediately got off the highway and of COURSE got caught in a bunch of lights and missed the departure from Waterbury. I ended up getting BACK on the highway and flying down to Naugatuck in an attempt to outrun the train, which I succeeded at…BARELY. I just pulled into Naugatuck station to see the train pulling in. Luckily they paused longer than normal before departing the station. Enjoy the rev and the video :)
PS: I have no idea how often GP40s actually turn up on the Waterbury branch, but I was excited…haha
Yes, I’m a dork that takes a picture. Of a picture. Of a train.
Or I’m just sitting in my car bored as shit. You decide.
